Dunhill Spring/Summer 11

Here's something to get you through the approaching abyss that are the winter months. The S/S/11 Dunhill collection my Kin Jones harks back to elegant dress of yest er year while capturing a modern edge.
I've never really warmed to the double breasted look but this was the wake up call I now know I needed. Short boxy jackets with slim ankle swinging trousers, finished off with leather accessories that Dunhill has become famed for.

Note the hip flask slotted into the waistcoat in picture 6.

Now wrap up, get comfy and dream of next summer. 1)

The Moon's a Balloon - Part 1

If you ever find yourself alone one night and you need a comforting push to send you to sleep then you could do far worse then listening to an extract of The Moon's a Balloon. Read by the man himself, this autobiography paints a tale so lavish, stylish and handsome that it will leave you numb.

Fashion icon, English gent supreme and all round good egg, David Niven wrote the rules on decorum, grace and how to live life. I think you'll agree that they don't make them like this anymore.

Cheers David!

Camera Works - David Hockney

I was bought this book a few years ago by my good wife and to this day regard it as one of my most treasured possessions. It has never been republished since first going to print in 1984 so If you ever come across a copy count yourself lucky and have a good look through. There's limited images on the Internet of what's inside so it's difficult to do the whole book justice by web browsing. Hockney's work always seems to seem to have such impact yet present itself in such a simple level, it doesn't need explaining so I won't try.
Here's a few of my favourite images from the book below (the tea cup is one I did myself).

Vinyl Junky

I don't own a great deal of vinyl so won't claim to be a dedicated follower, I have though lived with a couple of true vinyl junkies and know well enough just how serious an addiction it becomes. It's safe to say that what you own, ultimately begins owning you. Just seeing one of these guys attempt to move house was proof enough of that.

Having a portable record player in your home is the perfect ametuers starting point, not only can you find some vintage/retro options but it is a excellent coffee table/home accessory.

Junk markets are a good place to start and then there's Ebay which offers a conveyerbelt of choices. Be warned though, they're usually very heavy so postage prices may take the edge of the shopping experience.

I bought mine from Deptford Junk Market for £9 off a man called Peter.

Houses: 2

It's only a matter of time before the owner's of this beautiful house in New Cross put a restraining order on me. Every time I pass I just can't help but stare longingly at their property. The windows are all painted in a gloss letterbox red and inside their hangs chandeliers from the ceiling and contempary oil paintings from the walls. I'm guessing the owner is a artist of some sort as the basement is set up as a studio and stacks of large canvas paintings rest against the walls. Also note the two rabbits that guard the front door and the child's note that rather crookedly deters any junk mail.

It's rare that you come across such well thought out houses these days. With large buildings being divided up to sell or rent, there seems a lack of ownership in tenant's properties. Being able to own a building of this size and maintain it's standards is a job in itself, if the outside is so impressive I couldn't even begin to guess what's inside.
